I’m Being Bullied

If someone is repeatedly targeting, humiliating, excluding, threatening, or hurting you, you deserve support. This guide offers general steps you can consider.

This page is educational, not a case assessment. Beyond Bullying cannot determine exactly what happened, decide whether a situation legally qualifies as bullying, or replace a trusted adult or school professional.

1. Recognize what may be happening

Bullying is commonly described as unwanted harmful or aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance and is repeated—or has the potential to be repeated. School or state definitions may be more specific.

2. Don’t retaliate

Fighting back, threatening someone, or trying to embarrass them publicly can make a situation more complicated or unsafe. Focus on getting support and creating distance when you can do so safely.

3. Save relevant information

When appropriate, keep screenshots, messages, dates, or other relevant information instead of deleting it immediately. Do not post it publicly or use it to retaliate.

4. Tell a trusted adult

  • Parent or guardian
  • Teacher
  • Counselor
  • Coach
  • School administrator
  • Another trusted adult

5. Use school resources

Schools may have counselors, administrators, anti-bullying staff, reporting forms, or other support channels. The exact process depends on the school and applicable rules.
